My name is Nagumya Melanie Kezia, and I hold a bachelor’s degree of Science in Finance from Makerere University Business School.
I was privileged with the opportunity of working as a Graduate Trainee at Dativa & Associates Certified Public Accountants for a period of 3 months. This article is to express my heartfelt appreciation to this amazing firm for giving me this incredible opportunity. Honestly, it has been an invaluable experience filled with growth, learning, and new friendships.
As a graduate trainee at Dativa & Associates, I embarked on a journey of growth and learning that without a doubt contributed tremendously to my career objectives in Finance. From day one, I was immersed in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment surrounded by seasoned professionals who were always eager to share their knowledge. In addition, the hands-on training I received, not only enhanced my auditing skills but also instilled in me a sense of confidence and adaptability. Through the various projects and rotations, I gained valuable insights into the different departments and processes, allowing me to develop a well-rounded understanding of the firm.
Furthermore, the opportunity to dive into various accounting tasks such as bank reconciliation, and audit practices which included conducting audit tests for expenditures. Being given an opportunity to go out to the field and conduct audits for companies, truly opened my eyes to the experience and exposure of seeing firsthand how the auditing process works in a real-world setting. Being exposed to this practical experience, allowed me to apply my knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of the intricacies of auditing. All these experiences not only broadened my skill set but also provided me with a deeper understanding of financial management.
The firm also emphasized the importance of research through training and encouraged us to continuously keep reading to stay updated on industry trends and developments. The culture of knowledge-sharing and curiosity helped me widen my understanding of the financial processes and stay ahead of the curve.
